Kubuntu，是基于Ubuntu Linux的一个发行版本，它采用KDE为其预定桌面环境。它和Ubuntu采用同一样的软件库。基本上，Kubuntu和Ubuntu没有大的分别，如果把Kubuntu上的KDE移除，改而使用Gnome，那就等于使用Ubuntu。
根据Kubuntu的Wiki所言，“Kubuntu的发行乃是为了让那些想用Ubuntu但又不喜欢Gnome接口的用户有一个KDE的桌面环境。Kubuntu是建基于Ubuntu的强大而稳定的基础，而且有一个稳定和可预期的发行周期。它将在新版KDE发行后发行新版。”
Ubuntu是非洲土语，意为与他人分享。
出版规律
Kubuntu首次发行于2005年4月8日。它包含了KDE3.4及一系列经过细心选择而且具实用价值的KDE程式，例如amaroK、Kaffeine 及 Gwenview，不论是安装光碟还是Live CD都支援x86、PowerPC及AMD64这三种平台。它亦提供每日最新版的光碟。Kubuntu每六个月发行一个新的版本。
发行版
Kubuntu的版本代号是于Ubuntu相同的。每个版本的代号以及版本号都是根据其发行日期而定。Canonical公司会为Kubuntu提供18个月的安全更新以及技术支持。[1]

The next version of KDE now scheduled for 11 December of the same year. This means KDE 4 likely won't make it to the official Kubuntu release until version 8.04 in April of 2008. |
