BitTorrent软件狭义上讲就是布莱姆·科亨根据BitTorrent协议所编写的BitTorrent官方版软件，用以文件传输。它以Python语言编成，在2002年基于MIT许可证首次发布。

广义的BitTorrent软件定义

BitTorrent软件广义上是说所有利用BitTorrent协议进行文件传输的软件。
