豹属包括四种著名的大型猫：
- 狮 - Panthera leo (Linnaeus, 1758)：分布于非洲和亚洲。
- 美洲豹 - Panthera onca (Linnaeus, 1758)：分布于北美洲和南美洲。
- 豹 - Panthera pardus (Linnaeus, 1758)：分布于非洲和亚洲。
- 虎 - Panthera tigris (Linnaeus, 1758)：分布于亚洲。
和其他猫科动物比较，只有这4种猫科动物有吼啸的能力 (雪豹有时被分入豹属，但并没有吼啸能力)。
